My mom is a great cook and she often does experiments with ingredients and creates new recipes. But her biggest successful experiment so far is Lulu Cake.

To be honest, Lulu Cake recipe is not 100% of her own innovation but she certainly gave her touches to take it to perfection. I can’t tell you how much I love this cake. It is so yummy, so delicious that you must give it a try.

I have seen my mom making Lulu cake almost more than 100 times. Trust me, at her every attempt it came out just so perfect. It is an easy, quick, and tasty dessert. That is why she prepares it on weekends and on different occasions as well.

In one word, Lulu cake tastes heavenly. It does not taste like chocolate, coffee, or cocoa but is better than those. It has a unique taste that you have never tried before, I can bet you.

What is Lulu cake? How it tastes like?

Just like the unique name “Lulu”, this cake is far different than any other ordinary cake. The word “Lulu” actually doesn’t mean anything. It’s just a name given by my mom. She said, “This cake is originally invented by aunty Lulu, so I prefer to keep the name as it is.”

Actually, this cake is something between a cake and a fudgy brownie. A normal cake and brownie are generally made with flour but there is no use of any type of flour in Lulu cake. Besides no need to use tons of ingredients in the recipe, like any ordinary cake would need to be prepared. Only 4 main ingredients and we are good to go.

Lulu cake is also unique from a taste point of view. One could not describe the taste with words. You must have to try it to feel the taste. The taste is not like coffee, not like chocolate or milk, something in between.

What are some Do’s and Don’ts while making this cake?

Though the ingredients list to make Lulu cake is simple and it would need just 6 minutes or so in the oven to be completed, one small mistake in the cooking procedure can lead to total disaster.

1st of all I would like to talk about the ingredient choices.

Powdered milk is the most important ingredient in this cake. It will be better if you use full fat or full cream powdered milk. Use any of the well-known brand’s milk. Also, use room temperature organic eggs to get perfection.

Don’t mess up with the measurements of the ingredients. An overcooked bitter cake is not what we want. So just be very careful while making the milk and oil mixture. Don’t burn or over-cook the mixture. Otherwise, your cake will be bitter and tasteless.

Finally, don’t use too many garnishing ingredients. Try the cake as it is. I am sure you gonna like it better this way.

You can consider this cake as a dessert. It would be a delightful treat for your family members, friends, and loved ones after the main course at dinner.

As I have expressed earlier, I like the plain taste of the cake better. So don’t rush to put things while serving the cake. But if you insist, serve ice cream with this cake. These two are also a good combination.

For decoration purposes, you may use heavy cream or icing sugar. Heavy cream is also a decent choice.

Can we store this cake?

We can store the cake for almost 1 week in the refrigerator’s normal section. Use an airtight glass container or box to keep the pieces fresh and intact. Lulu cake even tastes better while it is eaten chilled. So feel free to store it.

  • 6 Eggs (Room temperature)
  • 1 cup of Sugar
  • 1 cup of Powdered milk
  • 1 cup of Cooking/vegetable oil

  • Liquid chocolate

How to make Lulu Cake Recipe?

  1. At first, take 1 cup of full cream milk powder and 1 cup of cooking oil in a nonstick cooking pot. Mix them with the help of a spatula.
  2. This step is very crucial. After mixing, turn on the stove and keep the heat at a medium level. You have to stir the mixture continuously with a spatula to avoid burning. Keep stirring for almost 8 to 10 minutes, until it turns into darkish brown color. Turn off the heat and immediately remove the pot from the stove. Even after turning off the heat, keep stirring the mixture. Otherwise, it may become too dark in color and bitter in taste.
  3. Let that milk mixture chill down, and proceed to make the egg mixture. Crackdown 6 eggs in a big bowl. Then add 1 cup of sugar. Give a good mix until the sugar melts down. You can use a hand whisk for mixing. No need to use an electric beater or so.
  4. Now it’s time to combine the milk and egg mixtures together. Pour the egg mixture into the milk mixture. Start mixing with the cut and fold technique, then gradually mix with normal motion with the help of a spatula.   5. Here comes the final and the most important step. Transfer the cake batter into a microwave-proof bowl (brush the bowl with a little bit of melted butter or clarified butter/ghee but don’t dust it with flour). Tap it 2 to 3 times to eliminate air bubbles. Put the bowl in the Microwave oven. Set timer for 6 minutes at medium temperature. After good 6 minutes, check the cake with a knife. If the knife comes out clean, your cake is ready. Otherwise, keep the cake in the oven for another minute.
  6. After 6 to 7 minutes the cake will be ready to serve. You can also keep Lulu cake in the refrigerator to chill it down. Serve this cake with heavy cream or ice cream, or enjoy it as it is.
