Equipment

  • Large skillet or wok
  • Cutting board
  • Knife
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk

Ingredients

  • 2 boneless skinless chicken breasts (sliced thinly)
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger grated
  • ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1 tablespoon honey or brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon sesame oil
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes optional
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • Sesame seeds and sliced green onions for garnish

Instructions

  • Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, cornstarch, and water. Set aside.
  • Cook the Chicken: Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add sliced chicken, season with black pepper, and cook until browned. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  • Stir-Fry the Broccoli: In the same pan, add the remaining oil and cook the broccoli for 2-3 minutes until it turns bright green and slightly tender.
  • Combine Everything: Add garlic and ginger to the pan, stirring for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Return the chicken to the pan.
  • Add the Sauce: Pour the prepared sauce over the chicken and broccoli. Stir well to coat everything evenly. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  • Final Touches: Drizzle with sesame oil and sprinkle with sesame seeds and sliced green onions. Serve hot over rice or noodles.

Notes

  1. Slice Chicken Thinly – Cutting the chicken into thin strips ensures quick and even cooking.
  2. Don’t Overcook the Broccoli – Keep it slightly crisp for the best texture.
  3. Use Fresh Garlic and Ginger – Fresh ingredients enhance the flavor more than pre-minced alternatives.
  4. Adjust Sauce Consistency – If the sauce is too thick, add a splash of water to loosen it up.
